The government is likely to give a subsidy of Rs 30,000-35,000 crore to state-run oil companies - Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), Bharat Petroleum (BPCL), and Hindustan Petroleum (HPCL) - to compensate for losses incurred from selling LPG at below cost over the past 15 months, according to a senior official.
Petrol price on Tuesday was increased by 15 paise per litre and diesel by 18 paise as State-owned fuel retailers started passing on the increase in international oil prices to consumers after an 18-day hiatus.

"Yesterday's GoM meeting was inconclusive as two ministers were not present. We did discuss some proposals and I hope the GoM and government will find a solution (to the spike in crude oil prices)," Petroleum Minister Murli Deroa told reporters in New Delhi on Friday.
